Guilty until proven innocent?

Seems we’re back to the bad old days, when the pilots were readily blamed for the plane crash simply because they were the last to touch it. We see the media clamouring like looters in London to blame a dead pilot, with no concrete, irrefutable evidence. And once again, pilots worldwide laugh at the ignorance and stupidity of the world’s media. At least we would if this wasn’t so serious and tragic for the families involved.

Interesting that Airbus is French – mainly – and the French investigators released their conclusion – with no blame to Airbus – based solely on a CVR, which records only sound? So their evidence is, that because the lad was on his own and was still breathing, he is a murderer? That’s their whole case? Now they’re tramping through his history looking for facts to fit their opinion.

Get this clear so there’s no doubt – the majority of pilots have, or have had at some point and are now coping, clinical depression. Including me. It’s part of the job; caused by stress. By the way, I also have type 2 diabetes. It’s part of the job; caused by stress. I also have chronic back pain. It’s part of the job; caused by stress.

Why is this so? Well, have you ever complained about the cost of your ticket? Or have you ever exclaimed “Yippee! I’ve just scored two tickets to the back of beyond for only a tenner!”

There’s your answer right there.

Fact: the aircraft descended.

Question: why did it descend?

Answer: we don’t know. The FDR hasn’t been found yet.

That’s it folks. That’s all we know. As far as I’m concerned, they’ll have to prove beyond reasonable doubt that this lad did this deliberately. Otherwise, for me, he’ll forever be innocent.
