Waste removal…

…Maintain a good conscience, so that in whatever way you are spoken against, those who speak against you may be put to shame..

So this drilling is just a way to remove a lot of unwanted stuff. In the last picture of the last post ( not the carrot ) it’s clear that the reason for using a smaller auger for the inter holes is to avoid infringing the tangential lines.

This is the setup to continue the waste removal process…

Then I used a chisel to take off the peaks…

I worked into the centre from both sides – to avoid splitting (or “spelching”) – and achieved this…

Next, the scrub plane is put to work, set rank ( or coarse ), and moved across the grain to take the rest of the waste close to the lines…

I put a chisel into the knife marks on the lines…

…and chopped along, to get a nice clean edge. I finished off – for now – with the 5 1/2 set to smooth. This is the result after doing both pieces…

This is finished to medium. The fine finish – by scraping – will come just before fitting to the base. Here’s where they go on the base…
