Hang on, let me think…

…the love of money is a root of all sorts of injurious things, and by reaching out for this love some have been led astray…

It’s all very well having the best of intentions. Like starting a blog and resolving to post every couple of days. But stuff gets in the way. Like going to Scotland over New Years. Then going to Madeira for a “well earned break”. Then not feeling well due to eating too much carbs in Madeira.

I took some photos. I intended to post them whilst away, but either there wasn’t enough time to spend on it or the internet was abysmal.

As I mentioned previously, I’d already done work on the lathe before I decided to do a blog. One of the things I did was clean up the insides of the motor. I didn’t take any pictures of it in its dirty state, so what I’ve done is dismantled it again so the process can be seen.

So here’s the motor fully assembled…

End bits removed and cleaned. The rotor has also been cleaned. The insides of these parts were caked in wood dust. I removed it carefully with Gunk…

This shows the windings cleaned up. I used a hoover and a stiff brush. No fluid. This was caked in dry wood dust, so cleaned up easily…

At each end there is a screw like this…

…which leads to an oiling tube. The tube leads to a wick which lubricates the spindle and bearings. This picture shows the bearing with the black bit being the wick. Also can be seen the lubrication channels leading out from it…

Finally, this is the plate on the outside. The company has long been absorbed by other companies. More pictures in my next post…
